The things I hate hearing as a not-coming-out gay

1. (When a gay classmate speaking to his boyfriend on the phone)
Another classmate said, “He’s gonna get some booty.”
I responded, “No, he’s talking to his boyfriend.”
The classmate still replied, “He’s dating someone to have sex. No joking.”
I, (Words fail me.)

2. (This occurs more than once. I’ll take the recent one for instance. I was reading an acclaimed teenage novel about a coming out story.)
My classmate, “Are you gay? You don’t look like one.”
I (V.O.), “Wow! You can tell a person’s sexual orientation by their appearance. You flatter yourself.”

3. (Chatting with my high school homeroom teacher on Messenger)
My teacher, “I have a question that I really want to ask you, but I am afraid of asking.”
I, “Well, what do you want to ask?”
She, “Are you gay?”
(I was in panic.)
I, “Nope. Haha! Why did you ask that?”
She, “If you are, I feel sorry for you. There’re many things you can’t experience.”
I, (sad and panic)

Coming out feels unsafe…
